The Perambra Grama Panchayat is located in the Perambra Block, Koyilandy Taluk, Kozhikode District. It covers an area of 26.12 square kilometers, spreading across the Menhaniyam and Eravattur villages.The boundaries of the Panchayat are as follows,North: Koothali, Velam, and Changaroth Panchayats, East: Koothali and Kayanna Panchayats, South: Nochad and Kayanna Panchayats, West: Cheruvannur and Nochad Panchayats.
During the early decades of the twentieth century, this region was known as Payyormala. In response to the request of the people of Eravatturamsham in the former Kurumbranad Taluk, the Eravattur Panchayat was formed in January 1956. The Panchayat included the localities of Eravattur, Kaipram, and Edavarat within the Eravattur village.
The first governing committee was elected through an open show of hands held at the Eravattur Narayanavilasam U.P. School. At that time, the President of the Panchayat also served as the executive officer. Based on the recommendation of the Panchayat Delimitation Committee chaired by O. Chandumenon, a native of Perambra, the Perambra Panchayat was established on January 1, 1962, by merging the former Eravattur Panchayat, the Menhaniyam area, the Kizhinyaniyam area of Kalpathuramsham, and the Kallot area of Kallotamsham.
The former administrative committee continued in power until January 1963. Afterwards, the Panchayat was administered by a government-appointed officer until December 1963. In December 1963, the first elected governing committee of the Perambra Panchayat took office.The committee was headed by P.K. Appan Nair as President, and it consisted of eight members in addition to one nominated woman member. Representation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes was ensured through dual-member constituencies in that committee.
